Attix5 teams up with EMCC Software for mobile
phone data backup
Issued by: Kuyima Communications
[Johannesburg, 11 February 2005] - Attix5 and EMCC
are partnering to deliver a data backup solution to
protect valuable data stored on mobile phones.
Under the deal, corporate data backup coverage of
Attix5's Backup Professional product range will be
extended to include data generated and stored on mobile
phones. The application, Backup Professional Mobile
Edition (ME), uses a standard mobile network connection
to securely backup contacts, calendars, SMSes, e-mails
and photos stored on smartphones.
Backup Professional ME will be marketed by EMCC to
network operators and corporates. The product is unique
as it is the network operator to select the data type
and frequency of backups. The benefit to the operators
is the ability to reduce churn, increase network traffic
while adding an additional value added service and
differentiating themselves from competitors. To the
corporate client the product delivers the peace of
mind that all company data is securely backed up,
allowing the workforce to return to optimal productivity
following a data loss in a short space of time.
Backup Professional ME is available immediately for
phones running the Symbian OS, including the Nokia
6600 and SonyEricsson 800 and 900 series. The product
draws on Attix5's experience and expertise in providing
secure, automated backup solutions, and development
of new features and phone support will be managed
by EMCC.
Garry Partington, CTO from EMCC Software, said: "There
is no doubt, that as more and more mobile phone and
mobile device users store important information in
their phones, they will have the need for backup services.
The Attix5 proposition is compelling as it is a backup
specialist, and as such an ideal partner for network
operators and service providers in this sector."
For Attix5 the partnership opens an opportunity to
extend the coverage of the Backup Professional product
set which already includes support for a wide range
of operating systems in servers, desktops and laptops.
Ian van Reenen, CTO for Attix5, believes the partnership
is a logical one in that it leverages the core
skills of our two companies and provides a trusted
solution for what is a widening hole in the mobile
application market.
